           Embracing Resilience and Growth in Sobriety and Marathoning, One Step at a Time
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

            There’s a phrase that has been quietly guiding me through some of the most difficult and rewarding moments of my life: "even if." It was first introduced to me in a 12-step meeting, years ago, at a time in my sobriety where I was challenged with maintaining serenity and was filling with fear and doubt.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It’s a small phrase, but one that carries immense power; particularly in the realms of sobriety and marathoning, two areas of my life where resilience is paramount. In my most recent training block for the Tokyo Marathon, "even if" became a mantra for me, as this last round of training was particularly challenging for a bunch of reasons (if you follow my running journey through my alter-ego @sober_soles, you are familiar with the details). 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           "Even if," is a reminder that no matter what happens, I will keep going. I will keep moving forward. I will trust the process, and embrace the journey, even when the destination is unclear, isn't what I wanted, and/or what I expected.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;strong&gt;&#xD;
      
           Sobriety: One Step at a Time
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In the journey of sobriety, "even if" takes on a more spiritual meaning. There are days when the weight of the world feels too heavy, when thoughts of numbing resurface. In those moments, I remind myself; even if I face a setback, even if I struggle with doubt, even if the road ahead feels unclear, I will continue my commitment to my recovery. As long as I stay sober, I will all be okay. Even if.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Sobriety isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up, even when life is messy. It's about choosing to stay the course even when things feel uncertain. The spiritual element is this; faith and an understanding that life unfolds in ways we may not always be able to predict or control, and the act of choosing recovery, one day at a time, gives me the courage and strength I need to persevere. Even if I stumble, I can stand up again because I’ve learned that it’s not the mis-steps that define me; it’s my willingness to get up and keep going. Even if.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The beauty of this belief, this mantra; "even if," is the more I learn to trust each step of my journey is exactly what I need to keep growing and evolving, the less time I spend in fear and doubt. Whether I’m in a moment of challenge, or in a place of peace; I know I am exactly where I am supposed to be in order to take my next step. So, I focus on what I can learn and what I can control; me, my commitment to my recovery, and making the next best choice. I stay focused on that, and I am always okay. Even if.

           Marathoning: Resilience on the Run
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           If you know me and follow my alter ago, @sober_soles, you know marathoning is another area where I devote a lot of my energy and passion. In this last training block for the Tokyo Marathon, "even if" became my guiding principle. When I first started marathoning, the idea of running 26.2 miles felt almost impossible. The training is grueling, the body aches, and the mind sometimes says, “Why am I doing this?” (Being honest, MOST of the time my mind says this!) But each time I lace up my shoes and get on with my run, I tell myself; even if I am not the fastest runner, even if I hit a wall during the race, even if I struggle in ways I didn't expect or anticipate, my "Why," my devotion to this sport, and my resilience will carry me through to the finish line. Even if.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In marathoning, I've found deep spiritual lessons in experiencing the journey over the destination. I’ve learned that speed doesn’t matter (unless, of course you're competing as a professional, which I am not). What matters is showing up, putting in the work, and never giving up, no matter how long it takes to reach that finish line. There’s something deeply humbling about running a marathon; the realization that the process, with all its ups and downs, is where the real growth happens. Even if.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           And even if I don’t finish the race, there’s a peace in knowing that I will have learned something in the process. The beauty of this sport is that every run, every training session, and every race, there's an opportunity for growth. Whether I’m celebrating the joy of crossing the finish line or learning from a challenge I faced along the way, I always take something valuable with me. Even if.

           Trusting the Journey: Even If the Results Aren’t What You Expected
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In both sobriety and marathoning, I’ve come to accept that the results may not always match my expectations. But that’s the spiritual gift I’ve been granted; even if the outcome isn’t what I “wanted,” it is always exactly what I need. Life has a way of teaching us lessons in the most unexpected ways. In recovery, this means that even when things don’t go according to plan, I’m still moving toward growth, healing, and have a deeper connection with myself, my Higher Power, and the world around me. Even if.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           In marathoning, it’s about trusting my effort is enough, no matter the time on the clock or the number of miles left to go. Even if I don’t hit my time goal, or even if the race doesn’t go as smoothly as I had hoped, I’ve been shown over and over, the journey is the reward. Every race is a stepping stone toward becoming stronger, mentally and physically. Each race, whether "successful" in my eyes or not, is simply part of the bigger picture. Even if.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           The Spiritual Application of “Even If”
          &#xD;
    &lt;/strong&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           What I’ve come to realize through both sobriety and marathoning is that life isn’t about the perfect finish, the cleanest race, or even the absence of setbacks. It’s about consistently showing up. It’s about having the courage to take the next step even when the path is uncertain. Even if things don’t go as planned, I can trust that they are unfolding exactly as they should, and there is always something to learn along the way. Even if.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;

           Through this Tokyo experience, I adopted this mindset shift as one of the most powerful in my toolbox. Even if life is messy, even if the journey gets tough, even if I can't see the future clearly, even if I can and things don’t look the way I envisioned; I will keep going. As long as I stay sober, I will be okay. As long as I stay devoted to the process of marathoning, I will reach my finish line, even if that finish line isn't the one I had imagined.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           In the end; it’s not about perfection, but about resilience. It's the ability to keep moving forward no matter the obstacles. Even if.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           In this journey of life, "even if" has become my spiritual anchor. A reminder that I am enough, even on the days I fall short. And that, in itself, is the greatest gift.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            In all seriousness, the start of college (whether it's your 1st year or senior year) is like opening the door to a vast new world—full of possibilities, challenges, and opportunities. It’s a time when you’re not just discovering academic subjects but also exploring

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           who you are

            One of the most powerful tools for navigating this exciting journey is tapping into your inner core values. By aligning with your authentic self, you can find the courage and confidence to be true to who you are, rather than slipping into old habits of people-pleasing or conforming to others’ expectations.

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

            Not only will you connect to the most amazing people you will ever (want to) meet, you will have tons more energy to use in those connections rather than feel the drain of going against who you truly are and falling into people pleasing behaviors.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           The Importance of Core Values in College
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           College is a unique environment where the pressure to fit in can sometimes overshadow your personal values. It's easy to slip into a routine of pleasing others or adopting behaviors just to feel accepted. However, the real magic happens when you tap into your core values—those deeply held beliefs and principles that define who you are and allow you to show up as who you want to be.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Discover Your Core Values:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Start by reflecting on what truly matters to you. Is it integrity, creativity, kindness, or something else? Understanding your core values will provide a solid foundation for making decisions and interacting with others. Consider reviewing an extensive list of possible values (I have some to offer &amp;#55357;&amp;#56841;), journaling or discussing with a mentor or coach (I happen to know a good one...) to uncover what drives you at your deepest level.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Align Your Actions with Your Values:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Once you identify your core values, let them guide your actions and decisions. Whether it’s choosing a major, joining clubs, or forming friendships, ensure that your choices reflect who you want to be. This alignment helps you stay grounded and focused, even when faced with challenges. It offers you a sense of peace and a "feel good," sense in all you engage in. When you go against your values, you will feel it (social battery drainage).
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Cultivating Courage and Confidence
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;h3&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/h3&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Showing up as your authentic self requires both courage and confidence. It means resisting the urge to conform to what others expect of you (or what you think they expect of you) and staying true to your own path.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Embrace Your Uniqueness:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Remember, you are a unique individual with your own set of values and passions. Embrace what makes you different, and recognize that these differences can be a strength. Being authentic often means standing out, but that’s what makes you memorable and impactful.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Practice Self-Compassion:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             It’s natural to feel anxious about not fitting in or worrying about others’ opinions. Practice self-compassion by acknowledging these feelings without letting them control your actions. Remind yourself that it’s okay to be different and that your true self deserves to be expressed. Also remember that your people are trying to find you- if you aren't true to who you want to be, how will they discover you?
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Build Confidence Through Small Wins:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Confidence grows through experience. Take small steps to assert your values in daily situations. Whether it’s speaking up in class, joining a club aligned with your interests, or setting boundaries with peers, each success reinforces your confidence in being true to yourself.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

           Overcoming People-Pleasing Behaviors

            People-pleasing behaviors often stem from a desire for acceptance or fear of conflict. In college, the temptation to please others can be strong, but it’s essential to recognize and overcome these tendencies. People pleasing and going against your true self will eventually lead to feelings of being drained, possibly guilty, shameful as well as induce a general sense of being unwell.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Set Boundaries:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Establish clear boundaries that honor your values and well-being. It’s okay to say no to activities or requests that don’t align with your priorities. Setting boundaries helps you maintain your integrity and focus on what truly matters to you.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Seek Supportive Relationships:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Surround yourself with people who respect and appreciate you for who you are. Genuine friendships are built on mutual respect and understanding, not on the need to please or conform. Choose companions who encourage you to be your authentic self.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Reflect and Adjust:
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Regularly reflect on your actions and decisions. Are you acting in alignment with your core values, or are you falling into old patterns of people-pleasing? Adjust as needed, and remember that growth is a continuous process. Your gut will tell you when you're off. Listen to that intuitive voice that will redirect you back to alignment.

            starts with understanding and embracing your core values. By tapping into your inner core, cultivating courage and confidence, and overcoming people-pleasing behaviors, you can navigate this exciting chapter of your life with authenticity and purpose. Remember, the journey to being your true self is ongoing, but every step you take in alignment with your values brings you closer to the person you’re meant to be. Embrace this journey with confidence, and let your inner core guide you toward a fulfilling and authentic college experience.

           Fear is the primary force at the root of many emotions that hold us back from reaching our full potential. It acts as a barrier, influencing our responses and decisions in ways that often keep us from moving forward and growing. Whether it's the anxiety of failure, the dread of judgment, or the uncertainty of the unknown, fear shapes our emotional landscape and can keep us trapped if left undetected. Fear is crafty in how it shows up, so sometimes it is really hard to recognize as an opportunity to address in order to achieve goals.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Fear gets a bad wrap most of the time. It appears a villain; however, beneath its surface, fear is the key to transformation.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           I was given the opportunity to study and get certified as a professional coach through iPEC (Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching). I was drawn to this school specifically because of my strong feeling of alignment with the Foundation Principles of their Energy Leadership Model.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Understanding and managing fear through the iPEC Energy Leadership Model's seven levels of energy provides a powerful framework for my COPE program. By recognizing, confronting and re-channeling fear, we can turn these obstacles into opportunities to roar and unlock a path to personal, athletic and professional growth.

           Fear is an emotion that can be both paralyzing and powerful. It has the potential to inhibit growth, limit opportunities, and create internal barriers. However, by understanding and applying these energy principles, you can transform your relationship with fear and harness it as a catalyst for power.

           At this level, fear manifests as a feeling of helplessness and resignation. Thoughts may be, “I can’t do this,” or “This is too overwhelming.” This energy is characterized by a passive response to fear, where you might avoid challenges or opportunities due to feeling anxious.

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            COPE tip: Recognize when you’re in victim mode and acknowledge that fear is a natural part of the process. Shift your focus from what you

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           can’t

           In this state, fear turns into frustration and resistance. You might find yourself in internal or external conflicts, trying to control or fight against what scares you. Phrases like, “Why is this happening to me?” or “This isn’t fair,” reflect this energy. You feel angry.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           COPE tip: Use conflict/anger as a signal to pause and assess. Instead of resisting, explore what the fear is trying to show you. Seek constructive ways to address the conflict, and use the energy from frustration to fuel action and problem-solving.

           Here, fear is acknowledged, you see it. You begin to take responsibility for your own role in the situation. This level is characterized by an awareness of how your actions, thoughts, and attitudes contribute to your experiences. You might think, “I have some control over this situation” or “I can choose how to respond.”

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           COPE tip: Embrace a proactive mindset. Identify what you have control over and how you can influence the situation. Focus on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. This shift helps in converting fear into motivation for growth.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

           At this level, fear becomes a source of concern, leading to empathetic action and genuine care. You may feel, “I am worried about the outcome, but I want to do what’s best for everyone.” There is a focus on understanding and addressing the impact of your actions on others.

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           COPE tip: Channel your concern into constructive action. Use this level to seek support from others (create a team), gather insights, and address the underlying issues with empathy and collaboration.

    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;

           Fear at this stage is seen as an opportunity for reconciliation and growth. You start to understand the bigger picture and integrate the lessons learned. You might think, “This fear has opened my eyes to some valuable insights,” or “I know I am growing through this experience.”

  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           COPE tip: Embrace the growth process. Reflect on how your experiences have contributed to your personal development and use this awareness to navigate future challenges with a sense of resilience and optimism.

Thoughts may include, “This challenge aligns with my purpose,” or “I am on the path that is true to my authentic self,” or, "This is what I train for."

           Getting your child packed for college is an exciting, yet rather stressful time. "Will they be okay?," "Will they be safe?,""Will they know how to..." Are just some of the questions that are most likely flooding your brain as you and your child start to gather lists and items to be packed in a month or less.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Material things forgotten at home can be replaced. Extra blankets, a fan, push-pins for the board that they will absolutely have to have to post their pictures of you and the family pet... can all be picked up at the local stores. What really needs to be discussed (and packed,) is a plan to take care of their mental health.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           As you create your lists and collect your items to start stacking in the dining room over the next few weeks, consider these discussion points with your child;
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Have you thought about how you will manage stress and/or homesickness once you are away at school?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            This question prompts them to consider potential stressors and how they plan to cope with them. It opens up a conversation about their strategies for maintaining mental well-being. (Here is where you want to consider mentioning the detriment in becoming reliant on the party scene to destress. Yes, they "all know," however, hearing it from you as a kind, compassionate reminder will be heard by your child!)
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            What activities or hobbies do you plan to continue or start to support your mental health?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Encouraging them to think about activities that bring them joy or relaxation (without a hangover or guilt trip) can help them prioritize self-care amidst the academic demands of college.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Remind them of their values and the importance for caring for themselves first!
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Putting the oxygen mask on yourself before helping others is a form of self-care!
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Do you know where to go on campus if you need mental health support or counseling?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            It's important for them to be aware of the resources available to them, such as counseling services provided by the college. This question ensures they know where to turn if they need professional support.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             You may also consider hiring a coach (hint) to help them navigate and grow through this transitional period.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            How do you plan to maintain a healthy balance between academics, social life, and personal time?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Balancing responsibilities and social activities is key to preventing burnout and maintaining mental well-being. Discussing their approach to achieving this balance can help them set realistic expectations for themselves.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            How skilled is your child at scheduling and keeping a calendar? At prioritizing tasks and activities? This is a great time to help them develop and practice organizational and scheduling skills.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Who can you talk to if you're feeling overwhelmed or stressed out?
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Identifying trusted individuals, whether it's a roommate, friend, or mentor, whom they can confide in can provide a support network during challenging times.
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Mental Health First Aid suggests having at least one trusted adult to help cope through unsettled times; someone who isn't enmeshed in the situation or relationship and is able to provide objective direction. Consider employing this role if there is no immediate candidate in your network already.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/ol&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Remember this is a time of growth and learning for all of you. Having these conversations with your child now allows them to see you are thinking of them in every way! Opening these lines of communications now may save your child from pain and struggling down the line. 
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

      <title>Imposter Syndrome; Yes, I was actually a Fraud!</title>

           Imposter Syndrome: Disconnection From My Divine Purpose

           I started to suffer from the dreaded self-doubt and fear of being exposed as a fraud when I stopped drinking, stopped managing teams and found myself in the lonely position of a Data Governance Director. Up until that point, I was solid in my roles, and when I wobbled, alcohol helped calm the angst. Prior to getting into Data Governance, I worked with teams. I was responsible for grooming and mentoring individuals to work more productively and efficiently. I was a coach, a mentor, a trusted advisor. What I would come to determine, roles that supported my Divine purpose.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="/"&gt;&#xD;
      
           As a person with fascination of how the human brain operates, I’d heard of “Imposter Syndrome” and started to do some of my own research. “Imposter Syndrome is the inner-critic…yada yada…” I didn’t identify with this concept that it was me doubting myself. I knew how to do my job! I knew how to do it well! I just never felt like this job I was now doing was the “right role” for me, especially when each time I stepped into it, no matter what organization, no matter how great my support was, I felt so alone. So misaligned. What was wrong with me?
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;a href="/"&gt;&#xD;
      
           It then dawned on me, “What if imposter syndrome is a signal from my soul, indicating I’m TRULY in the wrong role?!” THIS is what was wrong with me!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/a&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           Understanding Divine Purpose
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Before jumping into my belief and understanding of the connection between imposter syndrome and Divine purpose, it’s important to understand what I mean by "Divine purpose." This concept goes beyond simple career goals or personal ambitions. It refers to the unique calling that resonates with the deepest parts of your being (your soul), the path you are inherently meant to follow. Your Divine purpose is where your passions, talents, and values converge, creating a sense of fulfillment and meaning. It’s your ultimate, “Why.” Your reason for this existence.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           For me, I knew what I was meant to be as a teenager. I knew it when I started Clemson in the fall of 1989 as a Psych major. I knew it deep within, but apparently my intuitive (Divine) knowledge would be swept away by my perspective of peer humiliation (being made fun of for my aspirations), money, power and years of alcohol misuse (the use of any substance, contrary to some beliefs, blocks your channel of spiritual connection).
           &#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            ﻿
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           The Roots of Imposter Syndrome vs. My Understanding
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           It has been said that Imposter syndrome is fueled in environments where external validation and internal misalignment clash. While societal expectations and personal ambitions often drive us towards certain achievements, they might not align with our true calling. This misalignment creates a fertile ground for self-doubt and the perpetual feeling of being out of place. (A feeling I drank away for many years!)
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           My belief in the roots of Imposter Syndrom fall in how we manage our perceptions. I say that Imposter Syndrome is ignited by our perceptions of what we think we “should” do in order to measure ourselves against “societal expectations.” (“Should” rules are dangerous!) We are so concerned with whether or not we are doing the “right thing” based on external validation, we lose our internal connection to our divine direction.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           When you pursue goals that are not in harmony with your divine purpose, you are essentially living a life that is not authentically yours. The accolades and accomplishments, no matter how impressive, feel hollow because they are not rooted in your true self. This disconnect can manifest as imposter syndrome, a psychological response to living a life that feels foreign to your soul’s desires.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           Consider the metaphor of an artist having to work as an accountant. Despite being competent and perhaps even successful in accounting, they might constantly feel like an imposter. This is because their true calling – the one that brings joy and fulfillment – lies in art. The disconnect between their current path and their divine purpose creates a sense of fraudulence, no matter how capable they are.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           This "divine disconnect" suggests that imposter syndrome is not merely about feeling unworthy; it’s about feeling unworthy because you are not aligned with your inherent purpose. The nagging voice of imposter syndrome may actually be your inner self urging you to realign with your true calling. Not necessarily an inner critic voice that can be hushed through confidence exercises. It’s not a lack of self-confidence. It’s not a lack of self-esteem. It’s a lack of self-honor!
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

           Realigning With Your Divine Purpose

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           To combat imposter syndrome effectively, one must embark on a journey of self-discovery and realignment. Here are a few steps to help you reconnect with your divine purpose:
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;ol&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Self-Reflection &amp;amp; Values Assessment -
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Spend time in introspection to understand what truly makes you feel alive. Identify the values, activities, places, subjects, and causes that ignite your passion and bring a sense of fulfillment.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Authentic Living -
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Strive to integrate these passions into your daily life. This might mean making significant changes in the people, places and things you surround yourself with. As well as adjusting your career and personal goals to better reflect your true desires. (Scary!! But SO WORTH IT!)
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Mindful Practices -
            &#xD;
        &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Engage in journaling, mindfulness and meditation to quiet the external noise and tune into your inner voice. These practices can help you gain clarity and confidence in your path.
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/li&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;li&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
          
             Seek Guidance -
            &#xD;

           For me, it took getting sober and feeling pretty lousy in quite a corporate roles to finally take a deeper look at what was going on. I hired a professional career coach during COVID thinking that it was just a new job that I needed, but during that process, I reconnected to my purpose I knew all those years ago. I rediscovered Who I was really meant to be! I took the leap and got certified as a professional coach, started my business as a side gig just to get my feet wet, fell in love with my new profession and here we are today!
